The 300 challenge at Wawa Dam

Wawa Dam or  Montalban Dam

Is situated in Montalban Gorge, Rodriguez, Rizal. It was built during the  American colonial era to supply water around Metro Manila. It was used to be the only source of water for the city until Anggat Dam was built.

It was known for being the site of Bernardo de carpios legend where he was trapped in to great rocks by a shaman

It has also a creepy story. The locals believed that Wawa Dam claimed the lives of many. Acording to them Pandora was the caused of their deaths. Pandora is the most beautiful female  during that time who was raped and was claiming lives of men for revenge. Some said she was an enkanto or mortal girl.

I was distracted  by my curious mind and was challenged when I was invited to join "The 300 Challenge at Wawa Dam" initiated by Mr. Gerry Gelin a Trip Planner who created the event and trip itinerary. It was really a challenge for us to spend 300php to go in an adventure near Manila.

I with my friends Cyril,Mam Rox ans Sir Chris met-up with the group at Jollibee Cubao Quezon City. We rode a van for 1:45minutes bound to Rodriquez Rizal.

As soon as we get there we were mesmerize by the amazing beauty of the sunrise and breathtaking mountains. We headed to the barangay hall to register.

We decided to trekked the nearby mountain to have a better view of the slopes of  Sierra Madre mountain range.

We have crossed the wooden hanging bridge.

We did climb a couple of giant rocks and without using a rope.

Wawa Dam
As we trekked through the trail of Wawa Dam I felt the nature’s blessings and spirituality into my soul.
The site of Bernardo Carpio's legend

This is my first bamboo rafting experienced.
The nearby cave was a little bit creepy but ultimately beautiful. The limestone formation was incredible.

We went back at the town proper before nightfall. It was really an amazing experience. We spent 265php per head and that's includes fun, lifetime memories and adventure.

A Glimpse Of Paradise

If your looking for enchanting Mountains,Caves,River, waterfalls, rolling grassland and a variety of outdoors activities near Manila,Then Brgy Daraitan in Tanay Rizal is right for you!
Tanay Rizal
Tanay Rizal is  located 57 kilometres east of Manila. It contains portions of the Sierra Madre Mountains and is bordered by Antipolo City in the northwest, Baras, Morong and Teresa in the west, General Nakar (Quezon Province) in the east, and Pililla, Santa Maria (Laguna province) as well as the lake Laguna de Bay in the south.
Daraitan -"The Hidden Paradise of Tanay Rizal"
Daraitan is the most facinating barangay in tanay Rizal where you can find a hidden paradise,Hospitable people and beautiful mountains.
The view of the plains was fresh and beautiful

We met up at McDonald Shaw Boulevard and ride a van bound to Tanay Rizal. It took us 1-2 hours to reach Tanay Public Market.

From Tanay Public Market we rode a tricycle to Brgy. Daraitan. The road is very rough and We have to unload and walk at some point whenever the trike is having difficulty to go uphill.

The sight of the river’s sparkling waters
A magnificent view of the Sierra Madre mountain range and the province of Rizal

I felt the cold fresh air slapped my face. The view of the trees and the sound of the raging river was refreshing. As we trekked up the mountains.

Needed to climb down steep trails, the trail is a little bit scary.

The majestic white rocks and cliffs that border it.

We finally reach the Tinipak River. It was a worth-it view of the huge white-rock formation .We Set-up each of our tent near the river and watched the stars at night.

The next we swam in the river and lie our legs on a large, smooth rock, and let the river’s cool currents massage our  tired legs.

At The Tinipak River

The river was full of rage, powerful, and fascinating.

We crossed the Tinipak River to have a glimpse of the nearby Cave.

The water inside the cave is cool and fresh.

We visited only one cave because we are lack of headlights, proper gears and the cave is really scary so we just spent 30 minutes inside it.

The side of the mountain was elegantly designed with huge white rocks shining and shimmering under the soft sunlight.

As human beings, we are naturally drawn to the heights. Mountains are breathtakingly beautiful and remind us how small we are. At the same time, when we look up at mountaintops, a part of us feels like we are standing there, surveying the world from high above, which can make us feel mighty.
Another 24 hours of adventure filled  with laughter and good memories I have.
